You can have both private insurance and most kinds of MaineCare. Keep in mind, if your private insurance is through the Health Insurance Marketplace, you cannot qualify for Marketplace discounts if you are eligible for MaineCare.
Children qualify for MaineCare at a higher income level than most adults. Even if you and/or your partner have employer sponsored coverage, the dependent children in your household may be MaineCare eligible and can apply at any time.
In addition, you may be eligible for a program, called PHIP, (Private Health Insurance Premium Benefit) that can help you pay your share of your work-based health insurance. To apply, call MaineCare Member Services at 1-800-977-6740.
