MaineCare Resources

Health Care HelpLine-- 1-800-965-7476 (Voice/TTY)

The HelpLine, staffed by Consumers for Affordable Health Care Foundation, can help families sign up for free or low-cost health insurance through MaineCare and Cub Care. The HelpLine staff can also help identify other resources if MaineCare is not an option.

MaineCare Member Services -- 1-800-977-6740 (Voice/TTY)


MaineCare Member Services is the Health Benefits Advisor for Managed Care, the managed care program that many families receiving MaineCare and Cub Care are enrolled in. Call HealthWorks if you have questions about Managed Care, or if you need to change your primary care provider.

Bureau of Medical Services - 1-800-321-5557 (TTY: 287-1828)

The Bureau of Medical Services (BMS) is the agency that administers the MaineCare program. You can call BMS if you have questions about whether a service is covered by MaineCare or if you are getting bills you don't understand. If you have questions about your eligibility for MaineCare, you should call your local Department of Human Services office (listed below)

Administrative Hearing Unit -- 287-3610

You can call the Administrative Hearing Unit to request a fair hearing if DHHS denies or terminates your MaineCare or has made any decision that adversely affects you or your family. You may also request a fair hearing at this number if a hospital denies you free care.

The Hotline is run by the Bureau of Insurance to provide consumers with assistance in dealing with their health insurance company. The Bureau also publishes a number of on-line guides that can help you find a private insurance plan.

Regional Health Programs

CarePartners - 1-877-883-1797

CarePartners can provide very low-cost health care services including primary care, drugs, and hospital care to eligible residents of Lincoln county, Kennebec county and Greater Portland. To qualify you must be uninsured and meet certain income and asset guidelines. Call for more information.

Health Access - Franklin Community Health Network (800) 398-6031


Health Access provides many basic health care services, including primary and hospital care, to uninsured residents of Franklin County that meet certain guidelines. The program will be expanding to other parts of western Maine in the beginning of 2001.

Community Clinical Services - FQHC program 777-8899

Community Clinical Services is a group of physician practices associated with St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. Uninsured individuals that meet certain income guidelines can receive medical services from participating practices in the Lewiston-Auburn area on a free or sliding scale basis.

Community Health Connection - 438-9997

The mission of Community Health Connection is to support access to health services for uninsured, financially eligible individuals who live in Eliot, Kittery, Ogunquit, South Berwick, Wells and York by collaborating with the local health care community.

  • Downeast Health Services - Family Planning Program
