Policy Analyst
Consumers for Affordable Health Care, a non-profit
advocacy organization committed to helping all Maine
people obtain affordable, quality, health care, is
seeking a health policy analyst. This professional
position, working under the direct supervision of
the Director of Programs and Policy and closely with
the organization's other health policy analyst, would
be responsible for research, analysis, and dissemination
of information regarding health care policy.
Responsibilities include:
- Research and policy analyses, including researching
and analyzing health care and public health data
and reports
- Preparation of reports, fact sheets, and policy
briefs, based on research and critical analyses.
May include some data analyses.
- Tracking and analyzing legislation and legislative
activities related to health care access, costs,
and quality
- Educating and training policymakers and the general
public
- Collaborating and communicating with organizational
partners
- Providing people with the tools to advocate for
access to affordable health care and improved public
health
Requirements:
Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in public
policy, public health, economics, sociology, or a
related field, as well as research and/or public policy
work experience. Experience and knowledge in public
policy research, consumer advocacy, and/or in working
with public health insurance programs is preferred.
An understanding of public and private health insurance
programs and experience working with diverse constituencies
is a plus. Public speaking and report writing experience
and Master's degree is a plus.
This position requires excellent written and oral
communication skills; the ability to complete multiple
assignments under tight time constraints; and the
ability to articulate information to other professionals
and laypeople. Candidates must be proactive, self-starters,
who are highly motivated and able to work well alone
and in a team setting. Candidates must also possess
excellent analytical, strategic thinking, organizational,
and listening skills. Working knowledge of word processing
and spreadsheet programs (e.g., Microsoft Word and
Excel) is required. Working knowledge of database,
presentation, and statistical programs is a plus.
Some statewide travel is required.
