2008 Annual John Marvin Memorial Award Ceremony

The Maine Council of Senior Citizens - Alliance for Retired Americans is proud to announce the 2008 Annual John Marvin Memorial Award Ceremony. We would like to invite you to join us at the Elks Club in Augusta on Friday May 16, 2008 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. for the presentation of our annual "John Marvin Memorial Award."

Each year, the Maine Council of Senior Citizens presents this award to individuals who show a steadfast commitment to our mission, who advocate for senior citizens, and who effectively convey the spirit and courage of John Marvin. We are pleased to announce this year's award recipients are:

About John Marvin and his Award:
John Marvin Memorial was established in March 1, 2002. John Marvin was known as a fearless articulate advocate for educators, organized labor and seniors. In defining attributes of a person such as, Courage, Commitment and Leadership, one has to be reminded of John Marvin. Throughout his public career as an educator, labor leader, political lobbyist and his most notable, being an advocate for Maine Seniors, he continued to display his many positive characteristics. He was a tireless worker for workers right to organize, negotiate labor contracts, and lobby for improved working conditions and needs of Senior Citizens, both on a State and National level. John Marvin's name will always be remembered when the Maine Prescription Drug Law (Maine Rx) is mentioned. The Maine Council of Senior Citizens established the John Marvin Memorial Award to be given annually to a deserving Maine Citizen who epitomizes John Marvin's character.
